maybe the other one ate him......When I went to work this morning I had 2 goldfish, which I've had for a year. Why is there only one now?
Maybe the cat got it, someone took it out and didn't tell you, the kids ate it, or the other fish was really really hungry.
Do you have a cat? Have you checked the inside of your filter? Could he be stuck in your aquarium lid?(if you have a lid), The other fish was hungry? Someone took it for a joke or stole it?
Look around the inside of the tank good-in and under decorations, fish will find the smallest hole and get into them.
And, check around the outside of the tank in case it jumped out-behind the tank too. Look in places you wouldn't think too, they can flop around and get quite a ways a way from the tank where you'd think they'd be.
Also wouldn't hurt to check inside your filter, I've heard stories of fish-especially loaches getting into them.
Do you have a cat or dog? It's also possible the fish jumped out and was eaten by a pet or even fished out by a cat.
It xploded!
Goldfish can be pretty strong jumpers, and, as many former owners of tank jumpers can tell you, fish can jump a surprisingly long distance. Check around the area all about your tank. Even with a hood, it is possible (although generally not all that probable) that your fish has gone what many saltwater keepers call 'carpet surfing.'
If not, check your filter intake and behind/under all decor. It may be hiding in a small niche you cannot see. Or.... sadly, it may have perished with the corpse lodged somewhere it cannot float or drift away from.
