In the bible it says we are saved through the grace of God not by works does this mean some are chosen by God?

Yes, Man is inherently sinful and does not merit heaven by himself through any of his works, especially the ability to ';accept'; Christ. No, his eyes have to be opened by the Lord, and once they are opened, they see and are happy about being able to see. There is no transaction involved, except for God's grace being given.

Yes, they must be chosen by God in this manner, and this means that predestination is love from a God that would have been fully righteous in leaving everyone in their sins.In the bible it says we are saved through the grace of God not by works does this mean some are chosen by God?
The Bible says that we are saved by works. It says it many times, in fact. Paul simply said that we are justified by faith apart from keeping the Mosaic law. Martin Luther is the one who said that we are justified by grace and not by works. In the bible it says we are saved through the grace of God not by works does this mean some are chosen by God?
God chooses us we do not chose him.

We make the choice to serve him,we are saved by his grace.

What is unmerited favor?

God gave us his word. We have undeserved grace and mercy.

God gives every man hope. Romans 11.

So do we continue in sin? No! So that grace will abound. Romans 6.
According to Romans 8, God's predestination is based on His foreknowledge, in other words, He knows who will choose Him, and bases election on that.

So man is still responsible to make the choice to believe in Jesus Christ, and is held responsible for not doing so.
To be saved by God's GRACE means that He saves us not by anything we do but by His own grace and mercy.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
We are ALL chosen to be saved...God wants that not one should perish. It's up to US to accept His free gift of salvation, but unfortunately not all will.
Of course.
I would interpret that, in and of itself, to mean that it's more about faith and belief, than deeds, ceremony and actions.

But hey, that's just me.
sounds that way

John 3:16

Romans 10:9,10
Yes, so that no one can boast that God liked them best for something they'd done.
the jews wrote the old testament and made sure that they were the chosen people . hey why not it's their book .
This means that you don't get to heaven by your works, but because Jesus died for everyone's sins. You will be judged by your works although.

Read Revelations. Rev. TomCat
I think we start with the basics of Christianity, what Jesus said. He condensed the who thing in it's purest form and not scatter pieces. We are saved because plants grow not by our own works do they grow. On the other hand we have to pick the fruit. And now we even have to till the ground. Think big and keep it simple.
Yes, some are chosen by God and it is not based on anything that they do. The faith necessary to believe unto salvation is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8).

Read the following two passages and you will see why I believe this is true:

10Not only that, but Rebekah's children had one and the same father, our father Isaac. 11Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God's purpose in election might stand: 12not by works but by him who calls—she was told, ';The older will serve the younger.'; 13Just as it is written: ';Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.';

14What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15For he says to Moses,

';I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,

and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.'; 16It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy. 17For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: ';I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.'; 18Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

19One of you will say to me: ';Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?'; 20But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? ';Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' '; 21Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?

22What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction? 23What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory— 24even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? (Romans 9:10-24, NIV)

3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace 8that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

11In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory. (Eph. 1:3-14, NIV)

God bless you!
No, it says it takes both works and grace.

Matthew 16:27

For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

John 2:17

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
No Sir, No Mam.

AnyBody can get Born-Again.

AnyBody.

GOD just knows in Advance ';Who'; will Take HIM up on Salvation.

This IS NOT Predestination.

This is People who use their FreeWill to ';Choose'; but GOD can Look Ahead and See ';Who Will choose Jesus';.

Salvation is FREE to ALL.

If your not Saved, I wouldn't wait much Longer.
absolutely dear, and the only way that you could be God's child is to accept that you are a sinner and that Jesus is the only one whom you should accept in your heart and that He forgives your sins and let Him be the King in your heart/life...

now my dear, you have been chosen... serve Him with gladness!
We are all chosen by God. It's just up to us to accept it.
apparently yes. it IS in the bible. though there are texts in the bible that says otherwise and that it is through our deeds that saves us.

for short, the bible is one confusing book. -_____-
WE are all chosen. Not by works, but by faith. All you need to do, is be'; born again';, in Christ, and you are saved.

Love Him and Love one another.
it also says ';faith '; with out works is dead, you say you have faith, I'll show you my faith by my works.

when you are truly saved works result as a fruit of it, no fruit check the tree.
Hello,

I thought Martin Luther said that as mentioned before by Utuk.

James 2:14-26.

';What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, ';Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,'; but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, ';You have faith, and I have works.'; Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe; and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, ';Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.'; And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.';

Much of Christendom parts company on this issue. That is why there are 350 churches last time I checked. Still the majority feel faith without works is not good enough. God opens the door for us but we have to make ourselves chosen in his eyes. No automatic guanentees.

Cheers,

Of course. All throughout the Bible certain people are called upon to do His bidding. But that also means you need to accept Him as your Lord
If God is choosing who is saved, doesn’t that undermine our free will to chose and believe in Christ? The Bible says that we have the free will choice – all we have to do is believe in Jesus Christ and we will be saved (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10). The Bible never describes God rejecting anyone who believes in Him or turning away anyone who was seeking Him (Deuteronomy 4:29). Somehow, in the mystery of God, predestination works hand in hand with a person being drawn by God (John 6:44) and believing unto salvation (Romans 1:16). God predestines who will be saved, and we must choose Christ in order to be saved. Both facts are equally true. Romans 11:33 proclaims, “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments, and His paths beyond tracing out!”

Not really. But it is true that God chooses, it's just that according to what I know, the fact that we are saved by grace through faith is separate in ideology, or concept to God choosing who gets to be a responder to His choosing.

Did that sound right?

Let me try it again. God does choose who He wants to respond to Him.

But the concept is different than what the Bible says about being saved by faith through grace.

They are two separate issues; both are true, yet one does not mean the other as I understand it.
If we are saved and except Jesus as our lord and savior we are chosen by God.
It means you must accept christ as your saviour and serve Christ to be saved. Sorry but just being good is not enough. God does choose some, but mostly you have to choose him.
The Bible teaches a mix of free will and God's sovereignty. Some would argue that free will is an illusion. You're free to choose but once you do you discover God knew all along and has been planning on you making that choice. Fortunately God can keep it straight.

We have an obligation to respond to the gospel with faith. God picks it up from there and does the work of saving us and keeping us saved. He also says that those who are saved are predestined to be saved. So there's a balance of both.
You have to remember there is no time where God is concerned. He knows the future. He knew ever single action we would take and thought we would think even before he began creating the Earth on the first day. I believe we are predestined, but I also believe that our loving God predestined us by our own choices before we ever had the chance to make them.
Some ';more'; than others for we HAVE the EXPERIENCE the Lord requires of us in having been DEMONS at one time. (used to be a satanist)Remember Saul ? Read about how he went around persecuting the disciples of Jesus and HE was ';chosen.'; Read my ';name'; on this ';forum ?'; I too was a ';devil'; in organized crime dealing drugs and beating peoples brains in at one time not to mention being an ex marine who served during Vietnam. GRACE ? I never ASKED for it and for 30 years refused to do all God asked of me in ';death.'; (had a bad motorcycle accident in 1975) Then I got MS. The rest is history as I decided to give the Lord a shot and everything began to change for the better and still keeps getting BETTER........
God does not ';favor'; anyone over another. His grace is exended to all. Those who received it will be better off than those that don't. Works don't mean a thing. Works without grace are dead. If you receive his grace and do a lot of good works, things will be better for you. If your heart is hard, they won't help you. Of course, all this depends on the status of your heart. A whole other discussion...
