X has increased by 10% to 拢165, what was X before the increase? How do I work this out?

拢165 = 100% + 10%= 110%

x = (165 x 100) / 110 = 16,500/110 = 拢150X has increased by 10% to 拢165, what was X before the increase? How do I work this out?
10% of 拢165 = 拢16.50

拢165 - 拢16.50 =拢148.50

x = 拢148.50X has increased by 10% to 拢165, what was X before the increase? How do I work this out?
minus 10% (16.50)
Look at it this way:

110% of X is 拢165, so

10% of X is 拢165/11, so

10% 0f X is 拢15, so

100% 0f X is 拢150.

Hope this helps, Twiggy.
its 150 but I don't know how to work it out
10% = 0.1 (Divide by 100)

1 + 0.1 = 1.1

So to increase something by 10% you multiply by 1.1

But we don't want to increase by 10%, we want to find the amount *before* a 10% increase, which means we *divide* by 1.1.

165/1.1 = 150

So the answer is 拢150
X + (10/100)X = 165

1.1 X = 165

X = 165 / 1.1

X = 拢150
well that would mean that x is now 110% which is 拢165 so to find out the original price which would be 100% you need to find 1% of 165.

1%= 拢165/110 = 拢1.50

Then you need to find 100%

100% = 拢1.50 x 100 = 拢150

so the original price was 拢100.
this is compund interest

becuase it has increads by 10%, you have to take away 10% to get the original answer

+10% = 0.10 therefore

so 100% = 1

(+10%) = 1.1

so to work out the price before you do

165/1.1 = 150

(you can check this by doing 150.00 + 拢15.00 )
165 is 110%,

so 100% is 165*100/110
This is really saying X + .1X = 165, or 1.1X = 165, and X = 165/1.1 = 150.
Divide 165 by 110 then multiply the result by 100. I don't have a calc to hand and I can't do it in my head, but if you have access to a calculator that is the calculatiuon you need to do, trust me.

Just done it longhand by long division, it's 拢150
