Hi there, well it is a bit more detailed, but in general the right direction. If you join an affiliate programme you got the authority to advertise for that particular business or service. To identify from where the company that you joined has got their costumers, they give you a tracking code, either in form of your account name, a number or any other sort of codes, to make sure that they can track back to who did refer the costumer or client. There are many ways of advertising though. Some affilliate programmes give you advertising tools such as banners, whole websites or just referral links. The easiest way to see if somebody is an affiliate is a sort of number or name attached to the url at the end of an address that shows up when you click on the advertisement. Commission Junction and Zanox are very high profile programmes to join the most recognised companies and their affiliate programmes.
